Abul Zafar Siraj-ud-Din Muhammad Bahadur Shah Zafar (1775–1862), commonly known as Bahadur Shah Zafar, was the last Mughal emperor of India and a renowned Urdu poet. He became emperor in 1837, although by then Mughal authority was largely limited to Delhi and its surrounding areas.
